An explosion and ensuing stampede kill 29 children in a Central African Republic school

At least 29 schoolchildren died and over 250 were injured in a stampede following an explosion at a Bangui high school. The explosion occurred Wednesday during power restoration to a faulty transformer. Most victims died at the scene or in hospitals. The incident sparked anger among residents who accused the government of negligence due to lack of transformer maintenance. Approximately 5,000 students were taking exams at the time.
