A new Climate Finance Vulnerability Index reveals that over two billion people live in 65 'red zone' nations highly vulnerable to climate shocks and facing limited financial resources. Two-thirds of these countries are in Africa, but Cyprus and Ukraine are also included due to non-climate factors like earthquakes and conflict. The index, developed by Columbia Climate School and The Rockefeller Foundation, aims to better direct aid by considering both climate risk and financial access. It highlights a significant adaptation financing gap and the need for more effective aid models beyond traditional GDP-based approaches.
