Potent heat dome reaches its peak on hottest day in over a decade for parts of the East Coast

A dangerous heatwave is gripping the East Coast, bringing potentially the hottest temperatures in a decade to major cities. Millions are at risk, with at least one heat-related death reported in St. Louis. Numerous heat-related illnesses were reported at a New Jersey graduation, while an Amtrak train stalled in Baltimore, stranding passengers. Many attractions are closed, and heat warnings are in effect for nearly 160 million people. The heat is causing infrastructure damage, and travel disruptions are widespread. While some relief is expected by mid-week, a hotter-than-normal summer is anticipated.
