Have bans and fees curbed shoreline litter?

A study analyzing data from thousands of US shoreline cleanups suggests that plastic bag bans and fees significantly reduce plastic bag litter. Areas with such policies saw a 25-47% decrease in bags as a percentage of total litter compared to areas without. However, the overall amount of plastic bags on shorelines is still increasing, highlighting the need for more comprehensive solutions addressing plastic production and consumption.
