Celebrated pianist and writer Alfred Brendel dies aged 94

Renowned pianist and author Alfred Brendel passed away at 94 in London. Born in Moravia in 1931, he had a 60+ year career performing and recording at top musical venues globally. Brendel, largely self-taught after age 16, was known for his interpretations of Beethoven, Haydn, Schubert, and Liszt. Beyond performance, he was a prolific writer, lecturer, and teacher, mentoring many acclaimed pianists. His legacy includes a complete recording of Beethoven's piano works and numerous awards, including Gramophone's Lifetime Achievement Award.
