A study presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology showed music therapy to be as effective as cognitive behavioral therapy in managing cancer symptoms and anxieties. The seven-week hybrid therapy, combining talk, music, and lyric writing, helps patients process emotions. Dr. Kevin Liou of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center highlights the increasing need for diverse therapies for the growing number of cancer survivors. One patient, Cynthia Malaran, found music therapy incredibly helpful in managing her breast cancer journey and continues to use humming as a stress reliever.
