A $7.4 billion settlement has been reached in the opioid crisis litigation against Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family. The agreement, signed by all 50 states and four U.S. territories, resolves lawsuits alleging the company's aggressive marketing of OxyContin fueled addiction and overdose deaths. The settlement ends Sackler ownership of Purdue, bans them from opioid marketing, and funds addiction treatment and recovery programs over 15 years. Initial payments totaling $2.9 billion are expected in the first three years, with the Sacklers contributing $1.5 billion.
