JJ Spaun took the lead at the US Open with a bogey-free 66, while other big names struggled. Rory McIlroy, despite a strong start, finished with a disappointing 74, highlighting his recent inconsistency since his Masters win. Other notable players like Dustin Johnson and Shane Lowry also had subpar rounds. Spaun's performance, fueled by his confidence from a recent near-win at the Players Championship, contrasted sharply with McIlroy's struggles, leaving the US Open wide open.
