Red Sox Acquire Alcala from Twins, Bolstering Bullpen | JQJO

The Boston Red Sox acquired right-handed pitcher Jorge Alcala from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for infield/outfield prospect Andy Lugo. The Red Sox designated Brian Van Belle for assignment to make room for Alcala. Alcala, despite a poor ERA this season, boasts a strong strikeout rate and potential for improvement. The Red Sox believe Alcala can bolster their injury-depleted bullpen. The Twins were planning to designate Alcala for assignment anyway, making this a preemptive move for Boston.
