India's Cheap Heat Shelter Offers Climate Change Relief | JQJO

In Bengaluru, India, an inexpensive, portable heat shelter called Neralu won a design contest. Designed for outdoor workers vulnerable to extreme heat, it's a lightweight, easily transportable structure providing shade and ventilation. The $175 shelter, showcased at the Sweat and Concrete 2025 event, highlights growing awareness of climate change impacts on India's workforce and the need for affordable heat mitigation solutions. While welcomed, some workers emphasize the need for broader support like better public transport and health insurance.
