Oscars to Award Stunt Design in 2028 | JQJO

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will introduce a new Oscar category for stunt design, starting at the 100th Academy Awards in 2028. This follows a long history of impressive and often dangerous stunt work in Hollywood, ranging from iconic silent film stunts to elaborate action sequences involving large-scale productions. Defining what constitutes a 'stunt' remains challenging, encompassing everything from precision driving to elaborate fight choreography. The new award aims to formally recognize the skill and artistry involved in this often under-appreciated aspect of filmmaking.
