How NASA Plans To Deal With Death In Space

NASA has established protocols for handling astronaut deaths on the International Space Station (ISS). A specialized Human Remains Containment Unit (HRCU), a modified military-grade body bag, is available. The HRCU utilizes the ISS refrigeration system to slow decomposition and includes absorbent lining and charcoal filters. This provides a 72-hour window for NASA to determine how to proceed with the remains.
