Supreme Court sides with Catholic Charities in case over unemployment taxes

The Supreme Court ruled that a Wisconsin Catholic charity, Catholic Charities Bureau, is exempt from paying unemployment taxes. The court found that requiring the payment violated the First Amendment's guarantee of religious freedom. Wisconsin argued the charity's daily operations lacked religious instruction, but the court disagreed. This decision is one of several religious rights cases the Supreme Court is currently considering.
