Garland Jeffreys Documentary Premieres: A Life Well Lived | JQJO

A new documentary, "Garland Jeffreys: The King of In Between," explores the life and career of the acclaimed but under-recognized musician. Despite early praise from Rolling Stone and others, Jeffreys, a mixed-race artist, faced challenges navigating the predominantly white rock scene of the 70s and 80s. His music, a blend of rock, reggae, and soul, directly addressed racial themes. The film, which premieres at IFC Center, also highlights Jeffreys' recent battle with dementia, a condition his wife chose to omit from the documentary to focus on his musical legacy. The documentary will be available on streaming platforms in August.
