Scientists have discovered a giant planet, TOI-6894b, orbiting a low-mass red dwarf star, challenging existing theories of planet formation. The planet, about 17% the mass of Jupiter, orbits its star in just 3 days. This discovery, published in Nature Astronomy, suggests that low-mass stars may be capable of forming giant planets more often than previously thought, prompting a re-evaluation of planet formation models. The team used data from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) and ground-based telescopes to make the discovery.
