Astronomers have discovered a Saturn-sized gas giant, TOI-6894b, orbiting a tiny red dwarf star, TOI-6894. This is surprising because such small stars were thought incapable of forming giant planets. The exoplanet's large size relative to its star (17% of Jupiter's mass, 86% of Jupiter's radius) causes a significant 17% dip in the star's light during transit, allowing for atmospheric study. This discovery challenges existing planet formation models and offers valuable insights into the processes forming giant planets around low-mass stars. Future observations with JWST are planned to analyze the exoplanet's atmosphere.
