New research published in JAMA Cardiology reveals that both smoking cannabis and consuming THC edibles negatively impact blood vessel function, potentially increasing cardiovascular risks. A study of cannabis smokers, edible users, and non-users found significantly reduced blood vessel dilation in cannabis users compared to non-users. This impairment was linked to reduced nitric oxide production, suggesting different mechanisms of action between smoking and edibles. While the study highlights a correlation, further research is needed to definitively establish causation and determine the impact on less frequent cannabis users. The findings raise concerns about cardiovascular health in light of increasing cannabis legalization.
