Celebrated author Edmund White, known for his prolific writing on sexuality and personal experiences, passed away at 85 in his Manhattan home. His husband confirmed his death, attributing it to a sudden collapse following an illness. White, a prominent figure in New York's literary scene for over 50 years, leaves behind a legacy of over 30 books, numerous articles, and essays, many of which achieved critical and commercial success. He was dubbed "the godfather of queer lit" and openly lived with HIV since the 1980s.
