Mount Etna, Europe's largest active volcano, experienced its most significant eruption in over a decade on June 2nd, 2025. A pyroclastic flow of hot lava, ash, and gas raced down the volcano's side following a crater collapse. A massive ash cloud, reaching almost twice the volcano's height (6,500 meters), was visible from Catania. While the eruption caused alarm and prompted evacuations, no injuries have been reported. The event released significant sulfur dioxide, potentially forming vog, which can cause respiratory issues.
