Big Bear Valley's eaglet, Sunny, successfully fledged from her nest on Monday, delighting viewers of the live webcam. The 10-week-old eaglet took her first flight at 10:46 a.m., watched by her sibling, Gizmo. While sometimes eaglets don't return after fledging, Sunny was spotted nearby perched in a tree. Her parents will continue to protect and feed her for several weeks or months. The first year is critical for young eagles, with less than a 50% survival rate. Sunny is the fourth eaglet from this pair to fledge, a normal occurrence according to Friends of Big Bear Valley.
