The NOAA predicts a Kp index peaking at 6.67, potentially making the northern lights visible as far south as Illinois and Oregon in the US. Alaska has the best viewing chance. Skywatchers should seek dark, north-facing locations after 1 a.m. local time and use camera assistance to spot faint auroras. The aurora's visibility is dependent on various atmospheric conditions.
