LuPone Apologizes for Racially Insensitive Remarks | JQJO

Broadway star Patti LuPone apologized to fellow actors Kecia Lewis and Audra McDonald after her controversial comments in a recent New Yorker interview sparked outrage. LuPone's remarks, deemed racially insensitive, prompted an open letter signed by over 600 Broadway community members calling for her disinvitation from the Tony Awards. In her apology, LuPone expressed regret for her "demeaning and disrespectful" words and pledged to make amends. The initial comments stemmed from LuPone's criticism of the sound levels in a musical with a predominantly Black cast, "Hell's Kitchen."
