US to doubles steel import tariffs to 50%

President Trump announced a doubling of US tariffs on steel imports, raising them from 25% to 50%. He claims this will boost the US steel industry, particularly US Steel, and reduce reliance on China. This action comes amid ongoing legal challenges to some of Trump's tariffs and heightened trade tensions with China, following accusations of broken truce agreements. Trump also announced a $14 billion investment in US steel production through a partnership with Nippon Steel, although details remain scarce. He promised no layoffs and a $5,000 bonus for US steelworkers.
