Islamic State group claims first attack on Syrian government forces since Assad's fall

Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for two attacks in southern Syria. One attack targeted Syrian government forces, killing one civilian and wounding three soldiers; the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights called it the first such attack since the Assad regime's fall. Another attack targeted the U.S.-backed Free Syrian Army, resulting in one death and three injuries. The Syrian government hasn't commented, and the Free Syrian Army's response is pending. IS, once controlling vast territories, continues to conduct attacks through sleeper cells despite its defeat in 2019.
