French health ministry extends smoking ban

France will expand its smoking ban to beaches, parks, and areas near schools starting July 1st. Health Minister Catherine Vautrin aims to protect children from secondhand smoke and reduce tobacco's influence. The ban, supported by 78% of respondents in a recent survey, is part of a national plan to create a tobacco-free generation by 2032. Violators face a €135 fine. While smoking rates are declining, tobacco remains a significant public health concern, causing around 200 deaths daily and costing €156 billion annually.
