Faizan Zaki won the 2025 Scripps National Spelling Bee after a dramatic final round. Last year's runner-up, Zaki correctly spelled 'éclaircissement' in the 20th round, collapsing in celebration afterward. He overcame a near-miss in the 18th round where he misspelled 'commelina' due to mishearing the pronouncer. Zaki, a Texas native, will now celebrate his victory with numerous media appearances and consider pursuing other academic interests.
