Inflation rate slipped to 2.1% in April, lower than expected, Fed’s preferred gauge shows

US inflation remained low in April, rising just 0.1% according to the personal consumption expenditures price index. The annual inflation rate reached 2.1%, the lowest of the year. While core inflation (excluding food and energy) also saw a modest increase, consumer spending slowed significantly to 0.2%. Personal income, however, increased by 0.8%. The impact of recent tariffs was not yet reflected in the figures.
