The penny costs nearly 4 cents to make. Here's how much the US spends on minting its other coins

The US Mint's 2024 report reveals the cost of producing US coins significantly exceeds their face value. Pennies cost nearly 4 cents to make, nickels 14 cents, dimes 6 cents, quarters 15 cents, and half-dollars 34 cents. Production of all coins decreased from the previous year, with penny production ceasing after the current order is depleted. This follows President Trump's call to end penny production, highlighting the increasing cost of minting coins.
