Witnesses reported multiple gunmen fleeing the scene after shooting Portnov, who had been sanctioned by the U.S. for corruption. The killing occurred as students arrived at school, prompting shock and concern. Portnov's past included drafting legislation to punish Ukrainian protestors and facing treason charges. Ukrainian officials haven't yet commented on the assassination.
