Andriy Portnov, a former top Ukrainian official and aide to ousted pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych, was shot dead outside an American school in Madrid. The 51-year-old was reportedly dropping off his children when an unidentified attacker fired multiple shots before escaping. Portnov, who had previously served in Yulia Tymoshenko's party and faced US sanctions for alleged corruption, had returned to Ukraine after Volodymyr Zelensky's election before leaving again. The incident occurred as children were arriving at the school.
