Sound's Unspoken Gay Romance Falls Flat
Tap title to read story
Set in the early 20th century, "The History of Sound" portrays a subtle gay romance between two music students. Their unspoken love blossoms amidst societal constraints, mirroring but ultimately falling short of the emotional depth of "Brokeback Mountain." While visually appealing, the film's understated approach and a lackluster performance from Paul Mescal hinder its emotional impact. A pivotal moment where one character rejects a seemingly life-altering opportunity leaves the narrative feeling unresolved and ultimately underwhelming.
