New EU and UK sanctions target Russia's shadow fleet of tankers illicitly transporting oil

The European Union and the United Kingdom have imposed new sanctions on Russia, targeting nearly 200 ships involved in the "shadow fleet" that illicitly transports Russian oil, circumventing Western restrictions. The EU's measures include asset freezes and travel bans on individuals and companies facilitating the fleet's operations, impacting entities in the UAE, Turkey, and Hong Kong. The UK also announced 100 new sanctions targeting entities supporting Russia's military, energy, and information operations, including 18 additional ships in the shadow fleet. These actions aim to increase pressure on Russia amid its ongoing war in Ukraine and follow previous sanctions imposed on approximately 2,400 Russian officials and entities.
