Ticks abundant in Indiana transmitting new diseases illnesses to people

Indiana is experiencing a high tick population, particularly nymph ticks, which are smaller and harder to detect. While tick encounters are frequent, reported illnesses remain relatively low. However, several tick-borne diseases, including Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, alpha-gal syndrome (a red meat allergy), and viruses like Bourbon and Powassan, are present. Experts advise preventative measures like using insect repellent and performing tick checks after outdoor activities. Early removal of attached ticks and medical attention for any symptoms are crucial.
