'Cheers' Star Was 76

Beloved actor George Wendt, famous for his role as Norm Peterson on the sitcom "Cheers," passed away Tuesday at age 76. His publicist confirmed the news, requesting privacy for the family. Wendt, a Chicago improv veteran, received six Emmy nominations for his iconic "Cheers" performance, which included the memorable line, "Afternoon, everybody." He also appeared in "Frasier" and "The Tortellis," and had a recurring role on "Saturday Night Live." Wendt is survived by his wife and three children; he was also the uncle of Jason Sudeikis.
