Google to give app devs access to Gemini Nano for on-device AI

Google is reportedly launching new APIs at its I/O conference next week, allowing developers to integrate Gemini Nano, a mobile-optimized generative AI model, into their Android apps. This will enable on-device features like summarization, proofreading, and image description without cloud reliance. While limitations exist (e.g., three-bullet-point summaries, English-only image descriptions), the model's availability across various Android phones, including non-Pixel devices, signifies a significant expansion of mobile AI capabilities. Two versions, Gemini Nano XS and XXS, with varying sizes and functionalities, will be offered.
