Ari Aster's new film "Eddington," starring Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, Austin Butler, and Pedro Pascal, received a 5-minute standing ovation at its Cannes Film Festival premiere. The contemporary Western, set in May 2020, depicts a conflict between a sheriff and mayor in a New Mexico town. Despite some audience members leaving during the screening, the film, a follow-up to Aster's "Beau Is Afraid," is slated for theatrical release on July 18th. This marks Aster's Cannes debut, though several cast members are festival veterans.
