Material 3 Update: Navigation Revamp for Apps
Tap title to read story
Google's Material 3 Expressive update deprecates bottom navigation bars and navigation drawers in favor of flexible navigation bars and navigation rails. The flexible navigation bar is shorter than its predecessor and supports horizontal navigation items on larger screens. The navigation rail, available in collapsed and expanded states, is designed for tablets and foldables, offering a replacement for the navigation drawer. While guidelines suggest this change, smaller screen devices lack a direct navigation drawer replacement, leaving app developers with potential adaptation challenges.
