For the first time, a visible green aurora was observed on Mars. Atmospheric physicist Elise Wright Knutsen and her team, using NASA's Perseverance rover and precise space weather forecasting, witnessed the phenomenon last March. Previous Martian auroras were only detected in ultraviolet by orbiting spacecraft. The visible aurora, dancing above Martian mountains, was a significant discovery for planetary science.
