NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has provided the first direct evidence of a wandering supermassive black hole, AT2024tvd, located 2,600 light-years from its galaxy's core. This black hole shredded a star in a tidal disruption event (TDE), challenging the assumption that such black holes only reside in galactic centers. The discovery, a collaboration between ground and space telescopes, opens new avenues for studying rogue black holes and their origins, potentially involving galactic mergers or ejection from the core. Future surveys are expected to uncover more such wandering black holes.
