A half-ton Soviet spacecraft is about to crash into Earth, but don't panic

A defunct Soviet spacecraft, Kosmos-482, is expected to re-enter Earth's atmosphere this weekend. While the half-ton craft's uncontrolled descent may seem alarming, experts from the ESA assure the risk of injury is extremely low. Most of the spacecraft will likely burn up, and even if fragments survive, the probability of them hitting land and causing damage is minimal due to the vast ocean coverage. Predictions vary regarding the landing location, ranging from Borneo to the Southern Ocean, but the overall risk remains exceptionally small, comparable to being struck by lightning.
