New research from Kyung Hee University in South Korea reveals a link between the shingles vaccine and a reduced risk of heart attacks and strokes. A study of over a million residents found that vaccinated individuals had a 23% lower risk of cardiovascular disease, with the strongest effect seen within the first few years after vaccination. While the study is observational and doesn't prove causation, researchers suggest inflammation and nerve damage from shingles could contribute to heart problems. The findings highlight potential additional benefits of the shingles vaccine beyond preventing shingles itself, prompting further research into the newer Shingrix vaccine.
