The Eta Aquarid meteor shower will peak on May 6th, with up to 50 meteors visible per hour in the Southern Hemisphere and 10-20 in the Northern Hemisphere. The shower originates from Halley's Comet debris entering Earth's atmosphere at 40.7 miles per second. Optimal viewing will be after 3 a.m. on May 6th, following the moonset, in dark locations with clear skies. NASA recommends finding a dark location away from city lights for the best viewing experience.
