Army Helicopter Near Misses Prompt Airport Investigation
Tap title to read story
Two commercial flights were forced to abort landings at Reagan National Airport on Thursday due to a US Army Black Hawk helicopter approaching the Pentagon. This incident, involving the same unit responsible for a fatal January crash, prompted investigations by the NTSB and FAA. Senators Cantwell and Cruz criticized the Army's helicopter operations near the airport, with Cruz advocating for stricter FAA control over airspace. The FAA's preliminary report indicates the helicopter took a circuitous route, though not within the restricted airspace implemented after the January crash. Transportation Secretary Duffy suggested increased use of ground transport for the military, while the NTSB remains concerned about future midair collisions.
