Landmark Study Finds Semaglutide Effectively Treats Serious Liver Disease

A phase 3 clinical trial reveals semaglutide, the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy, effectively treats Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis (MASH), a serious fatty liver disease. Over 62% of patients receiving weekly semaglutide showed improvement, compared to 34% in the placebo group. The drug also reduced liver fibrosis. Researchers highlight semaglutide's potential as a new treatment option for MASH, given its impact on both liver health and underlying metabolic issues. The study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, is ongoing.
