Jill Sobule, singer-songwriter known for 'I Kissed a Girl,' dies in house fire

Award-winning singer-songwriter Jill Sobule, known for her hit song "I Kissed a Girl" and outspoken advocacy, died Thursday at age 66 in a house fire in Woodbury, Minnesota. Sobule, who released 12 albums tackling diverse social issues, was praised for her independent spirit and fundraising efforts to support her music career. She had recently performed an autobiographical musical off-Broadway and was scheduled for a Denver show this Friday, which will be replaced by an informal gathering in her memory. A formal memorial is planned for later this summer.
