The upcoming papal conclave, starting May 7th, will be the least Euro-centric in history. Over three-quarters of the 135 cardinal electors were appointed by Pope Francis, reflecting a global shift in the Catholic Church. While Europe still holds significant representation (53 cardinals), the Americas (37), Asia (23), Africa (18), and Oceania (4) collectively surpass European representation. This reflects Pope Francis' focus on the Church's peripheries. Two cardinals will be absent due to health reasons.
