Yellowstone Volcano Study Reveals Low Eruption Risk

Read, Watch or Listen

Scientists have used a new tomography technique, similar to medical CT scans, to create high-resolution images of Yellowstone's magma chamber. By using artificial seismic waves, they discovered the chamber's top is 3.8 kilometers below the surface and contains a 50/50 mixture of gases and liquids. This indicates the volcano is degassing, reducing the risk of eruption. The research, published in Nature, provides valuable insights into Yellowstone's magmatic system and could improve understanding of other volcanoes globally.
