Two new crocodile species discovered in the Caribbean

Scientists have discovered two new crocodile species in the Caribbean, inhabiting Cozumel Island and Banco Chinchorro atoll off Mexico. Previously misidentified as American crocodiles, these newly identified species, with populations around 500 each, exhibit distinct genetic and skull differences. Their small numbers and limited habitats make them vulnerable to extinction, emphasizing the need for habitat protection and conservation strategies to ensure their survival.
