The Vatican announced that the conclave to elect a new pope will begin on May 7th. Over 180 cardinals have arrived in Rome, with 135 eligible to vote. Cardinal Antonio Cañizares Llovera will be absent due to health reasons. Discussions among cardinals have focused on the future of the Church. Cardinal Giovanni Angelo Becciu withdrew his request to participate. The conclave, expected to be highly diverse, will involve cardinals largely appointed by Pope Francis.
