Pope Francis’ tomb opens to the public in St. Mary Major Basilica

Thousands of mourners visited Pope Francis's simple tomb at St. Mary Major Basilica in Rome on Sunday, the second day of official mourning. A single white rose and a reproduction of his pectoral cross adorned the tomb. Many expressed deep emotion, describing Francis as an inspiration. Cardinal Pietro Parolin, a potential successor, celebrated a Mass in St. Peter's Square attended by an estimated 200,000 people. The conclave to elect the next pope is expected between May 5th and 10th, following nine days of mourning.
